I’m sure you’ve seen or heard about Sir David Attenborough’s amazing Blue Planet II TV program which highlighted the plastic pollution in our oceans and the effects of global warming. The images shown were shocking and something I wasn’t expecting.
That got us thinking. We can do a lot more to reduce out carbon footprint and relieve our portion of the choke hold we have on the planet we call home.
Our goals for Róandi in 2019 include:
Move towards zero plastic consumables
Powered by 100% renewable energy
100% of paper used is recycled or responsibly sourced
Economical Launderette services
LED Smart bulb technology in salon
Our first step is removing all non necessary ‘consumable’ plastic from the business. Bin bags, retail and gift bags, spray tan caps and sticky feet ect but especially glitter.
Glitter is classed as a Microplastic (plastic fragments less than 5mm in length). There small size makes them an appealing - albeit dangerous - food item for many animals. Some estimates place the number of microplastics in the world's oceans at up to 51 trillion fragments in total.
Enter EcoStardust. EcoStardust is a Bio-glitter, a biodegradable premium grade cosmetic glitter which is both safe for you and the environment. The company only launched in April 2017 but have already made a huge impact.
“We love glitter; we cover ourselves in it and throw it around like confetti at parties and festivals.
However, once we realised we were covering ourselves and the world in little bits of plastic it took the sparkle out of it for us, therefore we started our mission to find an alternative and this is how EcoStardust Biodegradable Glitter came about.”
